About This Program in Florida
In Miami-Dade County, the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) program and public housing are administered by Miami-Dade Public Housing and Community Development (PHCD). Rent is income-based — generally about 30% of adjusted household income — whether in a PHCD community or with a voucher used in private housing.
How to Apply in Florida
Apply through PHCD at miamidade.gov/housing when waitlists are open; lists are often taken by lottery. Miami-Dade County protects renters from source-of-income discrimination under County Code Chapter 11A, so most landlords cannot refuse a Housing Choice Voucher (Florida has no statewide protection). Call PHCD at (786) 469-4100 or the Section 8 office at (786) 654-8440.
