Help with NYC Housing Connect: signing in, updating your household profile, checking application status on your dashboard, and who to contact.

NYC Housing Connect (housingconnect.nyc.gov) is HPD's free portal for NYC affordable housing lotteries. This guide covers the account side: signing in, keeping your profile current, and checking where your applications stand.

Signing in

Go to housingconnect.nyc.gov and choose to sign in, or create an account if you are new. If you forgot your password, use the forgot password link on the sign-in page. Only use the official housingconnect.nyc.gov website. Housing Connect never charges a fee.

Keep your household profile current

After you register, you enter everyone in your household, plus income, assets and disability status. HPD advises you to keep your profile updated with any changes to your income or household while you wait, because that information is used to decide whether you qualify.

Checking your application status

HPD says to keep checking your Housing Connect Dashboard to see the status of every application you have submitted. After a lottery closes:

  • Applications are put in random order and given a log number.
  • You may hear back 2 to 10 months after the deadline, and you may not be contacted even if you qualify.
  • If your application is selected, you will be asked to upload and share documents through Housing Connect.
  • If there are problems with your documents, you may get a rejection notice, which explains how to appeal.
  • If you are placed on a waiting list, you must tell the developer every six months that you want to stay on it.

Documents to have ready

HPD's "Ready, Set, Apply!" checklist suggests birth certificates, Social Security cards, photo ID, pay stubs, tax returns, proof of benefits, your current lease or rent receipts, and recent utility bills.
