Opened in the early 1940s, it is the oldest public housing in the city and a landmark of the Mexican American West Side. Rent is income-based, set at about 30% of adjusted household income.

How to apply

Your rights

Texas has no source-of-income protection, and a 2015 state law (Local Government Code § 250.007) bars Texas cities from requiring landlords to accept Housing Choice Vouchers — so a private landlord may legally decline your voucher. Federal Fair Housing protections still apply: a landlord may not refuse you based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, or disability.
