About Cedar High Apartments

Cedar High Apartments is an MPHA high-rise community at 630 Cedar Avenue South in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood, one of the most diverse areas of Minneapolis. The site also includes Grace Place assisted living. Rent is income-based, set at about 30% of adjusted household income.

How to apply

  1. Apply through mphaonline.org when the high-rise public housing or Housing Choice Voucher waitlist is open
  2. Waitlists open and close periodically — check current status with MPHA
  3. You can indicate building preferences; Cedar High Apartments may be available
  4. When a matching unit is available, MPHA contacts you for an eligibility review and an offer

Rent is about 30% of adjusted household income — there is no flat market rent.

Your rights

Minneapolis prohibits source-of-income discrimination under a 2017 city ordinance, upheld by the Minnesota Supreme Court in 2020 — a landlord generally cannot refuse you, or advertise "no Section 8," because you would pay with a voucher. The ordinance has an undue-hardship exception, and Minnesota has no statewide protection.

Neighborhood

Cedar-Riverside sits just southeast of downtown Minneapolis, served by Metro Transit buses and the METRO Blue and Green Lines at the Cedar-Riverside station.
