About Kingsbury

Kingsbury is an SLHA community of about 120 homes near Kingsbury Avenue in the West End and DeBaliviere Place area of St. Louis. Rent in the subsidized public housing units is income-based, set at about 30% of adjusted household income.

How to apply

  1. Apply through slha.org using the online RentCafe portal when a waitlist is open
  2. Site-based and voucher waitlists open and close periodically and are often closed — check current status with SLHA
  3. You can indicate community preferences; Kingsbury may be available
  4. When a matching unit is available, SLHA contacts you for an eligibility review and an offer

Rent is about 30% of adjusted household income — there is no flat market rent.

Your rights

Missouri House Bill 595 (2025) nullified St. Louis's local source-of-income ordinance and expressly allows landlords to decline Housing Choice Vouchers — so a private landlord may now legally refuse your voucher, and Missouri has no statewide protection. Federal Fair Housing protections still apply: a landlord may not refuse you based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, or disability.

Neighborhood

The West End sits west of Forest Park, served by Metro Transit (MetroBus) routes and near the MetroLink DeBaliviere station.

For current waitlist information, call SLHA at (314) 531-4770 or visit slha.org. Applications are free.
