About this apartment

About Summit Apartments

Summit Apartments is a Section 811 Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities property at 855 Brooklyn Ave, Kansas City 64124. It has 15 apartments, 14 of which are subsidized (14 one-bedroom).

Who can apply

This program serves very low-income adults with a disability who meet HUD income limits for the Missouri area (generally at or below 50% of area median income; many buildings prioritize 30%).

How to apply

  1. Call the building at (816) 842-1918 (managed by CENTER FOR DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED, INC) and ask whether the waiting list is open and how to get an application.
  2. Most buildings keep their own waiting list — this is separate from the Housing Authority of Kansas City, Missouri (HAKC) Section 8 voucher list.
  3. Submit proof of income, ID for every household member, and Social Security numbers where available.
  4. When your name comes up, the management office verifies eligibility and offers a unit.

Your rights

Kansas City previously had a local ordinance barring source-of-income discrimination, but Missouri House Bill 595, signed in July 2025, preempts and nullifies such local ordinances statewide and expressly allows landlords to refuse Housing Choice Vouchers. The Kansas City ordinance is no longer enforceable, Missouri has no statewide protection, and voucher acceptance by private landlords is voluntary
