About This Program in Texas
In San Antonio, the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) program and public housing are administered by Opportunity Home San Antonio (formerly the San Antonio Housing Authority). Rent is income-based — generally about 30% of adjusted household income — whether in an Opportunity Home community or with a voucher used in private housing.
How to Apply in Texas
Apply through Opportunity Home at homesa.org when waitlists are open. Important: Texas has no source-of-income protection and a 2015 state law (Local Government Code § 250.007) bars cities from requiring landlords to accept vouchers, so a private landlord may legally decline yours. Federal Fair Housing protections still apply. Call Opportunity Home at (210) 477-6000.
